ABOUT
Jean-Claude Knebeler is a global entrepreneur, emerging & frontier market specialist and sustainability advocate.
He advises UBOs and C-level executives of companies with international ambitions on their emerging market strategies and international relationship building. He identifies macro-developments that create investment opportunities and uses his network to deploy capital in a fragmenting global market where deep know-how is ever more valuable.
Out of personal conviction, he engages in the promotion of ESG issues in emerging and frontier markets interacting with government and corporate audiences to help the growing sustainability ecosystem and its integration into global capital markets.
He provides his expertise as an independent director of corporations, some global leaders in their field and some still promising start-ups.
Prior to turning to entrepreneurship from September 2020, Jean-Claude was a senior civil servant in Luxembourg. He resigned his position in the civil service and received an honourable discharge.
From 2016 to 2020, he served as the Ambassador of Luxembourg to the Russian Federation, based in Moscow. He was also accredited as a non-resident Ambassador to the Republics of Kazakhstan and Belarus.
From 2012 to 2016 Jean-Claude Knebeler was posted in New York City, accredited by the U.S. Department of State as Consul General with jurisdiction over Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Furthermore, he was Executive Director of the Luxembourg Trade & Investment Office, representing the Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy in the Eastern half of North America, building extensive networks within the business, technology, and finance communities.
Until August 2012, Mr. Knebeler held the position of Director-General for Trade & Investment Promotion at the Ministry of the Economy & Foreign Trade. He provided advice to the Minister on bilateral trade affairs as well as on strategy and policy promoting Luxembourg’s economy globally. During this time he was instrumental in building economic relations with Greater China, the Arab Gulf region as well as the Russian Federation and India.
During this time he was a non-executive director of a number of commercial companies with State participation, in the sectors of energy, trade finance & export insurance as well as air freight
